Therapy

You deserve support.

Being a human can be really hard.

My clients know that they are not alone in whatever they are experiencing.

Together, we will work towards greater self-compassion, healthier boundaries, and relief.

I am deeply compassionate and also acknowledge how incredibly difficult it can be to be human. Because of that, I show up as myself in sessions. While I am warm and patient, I am also candid and realistic. I also have personal connection to queer community and culture that is relevant for the clients I work with.

My clients learn to offer compassion to themselves, shifting away from self-criticism and shame. They are able to identify their needs and communicate healthy boundaries. They are validated and learn to celebrate the ways in which they have been made to feel weird, different, and other. They learn options for how to take care of and express themselves. Ultimately, my clients learn that they can survive intolerable experiences, and continue forward. (And, yes, we work on improving mood and reducing anxiety.)

Nothing is off limits, so while I regularly help folks work through depression, anxiety, and trauma, we also freely discuss other topics that people often don’t have a place to address, including: sex, faith, and the impact of diet culture.

Sessions:

Sessions are 50 minutes long and held through a secure video platform. Sessions are held weekly on a standing day and time whenever possible.

Some clients later shift to biweekly or less frequent sessions, however, weekly sessions are recommended for all new clients.

Half-length sessions of about 25 minutes are available for longterm clients who are stable.

Parent sessions are available for parents of current clients under the age of 18.

Fees:

The fee for each appointment is $140 for a 50 minute session. A limited number of reduced fee slots are available for clients experiencing financial hardship. It is expected that if financial circumstances improve, clients will inform their therapist and begin to pay the standard session rate.

Please feel free to reach out if you are in need of a reduced fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work with people who aren’t a part of the LGBTQ+ community?

Of course! If you’ve read through my website and think I might be the right fit to provide support with your unique experiences, please reach out.

Do you work with children, families, or couples?

Yes and no. I generally work with teenagers and older. Teenagers must be willing to participate in therapy, and I do my best work with teenagers who are “talkers.” While I don’t do traditional family therapy, I will provide as needed family sessions and individual parent sessions, for current clients.

Why do you keep talking about the right fit?

Therapists aren’t one size fits all! The therapeutic relationship between a therapist and client is really important, and I want to be sure I have the expertise and experience to help you with what you need support with, and that you feel comfortable and at ease while we work together.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not participate with insurance companies for many reasons, including inconsistency in payment, as well as insurance companies attempting to control how long a person can participate in therapy for. Upon your request, I can provide a monthly superbill receipt for you to submit to your insurance company in an attempt to be reimbursed.

What is a superbill?

If you have Out of Network benefits through your health insurance, a superbill receipt can be used to seek reimbursement. Superbills require a mental health diagnosis, which we will review together. Insurance companies may or may not reimburse for telehealth services or for specific diagnoses. The client is responsible for any deductible payments before receiving reimbursement. A superbill is not a guarantee that your insurance company will reimburse all or part of the paid session fee. Clients are responsible for communicating directly with their insurance company.
